Not a direct comparison as Wahoo appear to have both taken my money for the refurb on their site and "lost" it and aren't showing any signs of replacing it with a newer one. So I'm prob going to just get a refund.

I have a 3 year old bog std Direto. It's done 4000+km and not missed a beat. Bit noisy when it's cold (belt I think), not the best on ERG (which I don't use much) but kept in calibration and been absolutely fine for Zwift.

I'm buying a new one as my wife has started to use mine and she's TINY 😉 So we're going to put her old Spesh Hardrock on the Direto.

So I'm wondering if to just get the latest Elite. Halfords have them for £100 less than the refurb I was getting, they have them in stock and I'm happy with the brand/performance. But not sure it's worth it. Could wait for another Kickr offer, get a Core or close my eyes and buy a Neo2.

I don't really do any racing but I do a lot of group rides. Would expect to do around 2k/year so I'm pretty invested in the whole turbo thing.

Any experiences welcome... also Halfords have one and said wife is shopping close to it so I'm a bit twitchy in terms of just buying it.

As it's STW I'll not answer your question.

But have you looked on eBay? The prices for 2nd hand units seem to have fallen through the floor. I was kicking myself at the weekend for missing a Drivo that finished at £230, and that's not unusually low!

I haven't. I wasn't looking for anything 2nd hand, but now you've piqued my interest. I'll go take a look but I'm a bit wary of stuff with no providence. I was quite happy (ish) to pay the refurb price for the Kickr if they actually had it in physical form 😉

I have an original Direto, I'd be looking at the Saris H3 at the mo for that sort of money, very good for ERG training and reliable racing power numbers apparently.

My Direto is currently 8 units below the calibration sticker on its base, giving power figures ~9% lower than my 4iii in default balance settings according to the Zwiftpower analyser.

Thanks for that. After reading your post I'll defo recalibrate my current direto when I put the other bike on it. Must be at least a year since I even opened the elite app! I'll go check out the S3 as well.

CRC have got the original Direto for £499.

I am not sure why they are still being made, but they keep popping up on Wiggle & CRC for this price.
I got mine from Wiggle at the start of this year for same price.

I'm not sure I want another one of those 🙂

I've decided to continue with the car crash that is Wahoo/DPD. It's amusing - sort of - listening to their increasingly desperate excuses followed by radio silence. I mean something might turn up. Not sure what and not sure when but you never know... I'll never order direct from them again tho!
