My bike seems to have developed an almost eerie sounding death gargle. It's my 06' Giant Anthem 1...and when freewheeling it sounds like i've got a Stag in full rutting season chasing me ๐ฅ
It started after I put a 2.25 Ardent on the back, and assumed it was down to little/no clearance to the brace on the rear triangle. The only way to make it stop was by pedalling. But after changing to a narrower 2.1 Advantage, it has the same problem, but not as bad. Trouble is, I've always ran the Advantages and never had the problem. Mavic Freehub was replaced about 500k's ago, chain and rear casette has little wear.
Is it serious?
It sounds like the infamous Mavic freehub howl. I'd whip the free hub off, clean it all up - check pawls etc for brokenness and all - then reassemble using very thin mineral oil for lubrication making sure not to leave any spacers etc out when you put it all back together.
Agree completely with BWD.
Cheers BadlywiredDog, i'll get stuck in. Beats watching hundreds of boats pointlessly pootle up the Thames. Assumed it not to be the free-hub due to it's age, but it seems too coincidental not to be. Any particular brand/viscosity of oil?
Any light oil according to Mavic.
