I want to get a feel for a plus sized front without buying new rims just yet
I have wtb stp i25 currently with hans dampf with on a pike.
Which rolls faster on the front and which would work better on my rim which is too narrow?
Are the 2.6 versions even "wide trail"?
All you’ll get a feel for is what a big tyre on a too small rim feels like. The tyre will fold under the rim on hard corners, and will generally feel shit. Kind of an all or nothing deal really.

Low pressures are the whole point of running plus.
Wouldnt waste your money going 2.6 as it not even really that plus. From your tyre choices and rim I'd be going for a DHF 2.5wt. Quicker rolling than dhr 2 and the wt versions have more supportive side walls than maxxis plus tyres. I'm running a 2.8 dhr2 on a 45mm rim, and the sidewallls are pretty lightweight.
Also, plus front with normal rear can make the handling horrible. I tried my plus front wheel on my 5010 and it was awful.
How would a 2.6 and the 2.5WT compare to a hans dampf size wise?
I'd like to go lower pressures, i'm currently running 20PSI on the front with the HD

Mtbr: Are there any benefits to running a WT tire on a narrower, sub 30mm rim? Any negatives?
BB: There would not be any benefits running a WT tire on a narrower rim. This will create a rounder tire profile, requiring a greater lean to engage the sideknobs.

Well I have the same rims and currently have a 2.5in "wide trail" Shorty on the front.
It is amazeballs and the Maxxis dude is welcome to come and have a go if he doesn't believe me.
I'm sure a 2.6 would be fine too.
I’m running Maxxis WT 2.5 on Flow EX rims (25.5mm internal width). Both the DHF and Shorty work great up front.

I will get some wider rims eventually, almost won a set today actually on ebay but missed out by £2 for some i29
Im quite happy to build by own set or get some the same erd as mine and swap them but i cannot find any bargains at the moment
