Is there any reason not to buy the deore chainset? At 50 quid for cranks, rings and bb it seems like a steal- (second hand arms for slx/xt cost that alone) What's te difference between the deore and the slx? Is the slx worth the extra 40 quid?

For £50 you can't go wrong. I've got one on my Pitch, and it's perfect. Get one. 🙂

Got mine for £44 from Evans paid another 20 notes to have the BB faced and have it fitted. Cant go wrong for that price.

try to get the lx for £10 extra, should still be about, ive used both ,the deore is excellent for the money, but the lx is stiffer and looks better

£50 deore is a bargain, as is the LX one above.
i reckon the deore looks better though, if that bothers you. the deore BB didn't last long though, but i got some enduro bearings fitted for £23 once the originals had died. rings are steel iirc (except outer) so should last a while.
