I need dependable, comprehensive travel insurance for a biking trip. Can anyone recommend a good company? Snowcard's coming in at £100 for full cover for 3 weeks - seems steep, but I'll bite the bullet if necesary. Cheers.

I asked the same thing and got recommended snowcard - it is pricey though. Never made a claim so I can't comment on that but some others who responded said their mate had a helicopter rescue and they dealt with it all very well.

Cheers Grumm. Since discovered British Mountaineering Council is £75 - should be reliable, so I might go with them. Other suggestions still welcome though.

snowcard gets 5 stars from me... claimed last year when i broke pelvis, spine, hand, ribs and tore shoulder while biking in the alps. they were brilliant. put me on the phone with an english speaking doctor and nurse; paid for everything without hesitation (including my girlfriend's expenses for visiting me), and were going to fly me home (except that I checked myself out and drove back in the car with mates, in agony, because I am stupid)

consider getting annual cover, and see if you can get it as a couple (if your partner is into the same stuff as you)... ours costs £170 for 2 of us for the year; that covers all our snowboarding trips too.. makes it much better value.

Snowcard or BMC, depending on the trip. Ive claimed through snowcard and they have been continually professional and on the ball with all dealings with them. More importantly they know what mountain biking is (or any other activity I wanted insurance for), which is more than a lot of the brokers out there. You get what you pay for imo.

Cheers, useful stuff. I've made claims before, so I'm not into skimping on insurance - just want cover I can rely on. One of these two will do.
