Morning all.

I'll be in Dartmouth with the familiy in July for the brother in laws navy passing out. I'm thinking about making a couple of days of it with a trip to Dartmoor with the bike. We'll be staying near Dartmouth the first night, but wondered what the collective wisdom is about where best to stay on night two giving me a) close proximity to some Dartmoor riding (nothing too epic as I'll only have 2-3 hours); b) some touristy stuff for the wife and kids while I'm out?

Princetown looks like the obvious choice - but is it?? Appreciate any opinions.

The best riding is almost entirely on the eastern side of the moor. There is some good riding to be had around Princetown and staying there does make those trails very accessable so it's a good choice. However, if you base yourself somewhere around Ashburton, Newton Abbot, Moretonhampstead, Bovey Tracey, Lustleigh etc you'll be really close to or right on top of the best of the trails.

I think I did eat there once!
Tell a lie - we were sheltering from the rain & the toasted ham sandwiches in the Plume of feathers smell was to much to resist.

This place is just outside Ashburton with stuff for the kids to do. They have a campsite but I'm not sure if their other accomodation is bookable for just one night in the summer months.

Cheers guys. Ashburton sounds like a result and is a lot closer to Dartmouth than Princetown too.
