Got a few hours spare this Sunday and realised I've never been to the top of Dartmoor. Any suggestions for route or is it straight up and back down again?
I've done it twice. First time was from the Meldon Reservoir, not a great route ending up hike-a-biking for a fair portion of the up. More recently i rode up from the old Okehampton Station past the army camp. Bailed out before I got to the very top as visibility was extremely limited.....
So, I can't really answer your question but I would definitely come at it from the army camp side....
What about descending towards Meldon? There's some nice singletrack round the edge.
There wasn't much on the top half on that side Jam Bo (although as I say I've only been a couple of times so could have missed something).
For me it was nice to have been up to say I've been to the highest bit, but there are so many better Dartmoor places to ride....
