Just below burbage rocks there's a shooting track, labelled as a footpath. Anyone ever used it?
What's a 'shooting track'??
Which side of the valley? Sheffield side or Hathersage side? All of it gets very cut up/boggy in anything other than bone dry weather so best avoided apart from summer evenings.
There are various footpaths on there that vary in technical difficulty.
Its a wide and busy gravel footpath, with 'no bicycle' signs at each end. You'd be better off using the Houndkirk Road track which runs parallel if you're riding at a weekend.
yeah figured that. I know where it is, just hadn't spotted it on the map as what I know elsewhere as tracks used by shooting parties.
Shooting track Andy? Track generally used by people shooting. A track running across open moorland that your gentry types will happily motor over in their Landys and in certain areas don't mind the odd MTB rolling over them.
Yes it's not an Ordnance Survey recognised definition. Yes, by looking at pink spots on a map it may not show as access, but in practice, in certain areas, you're allowed up them.
Was just checking for this one.
EDIT: just read that back and i sound a bit arsey! I'm not - just busy ๐
It's under the rocks on the sheffield side of burbage brook Andy
further edit: I don't like riding footpaths. Just wanted to check this one with it having the "shooting track" look about it.
and ben - cheers, I know houndkirk well. Trying to make a loop avoiding lots of road
Some of the best trails in the dark peak IMO are 'shooting tracks' 8)
some road sections can be fine at this time of year IMO, faster rolling, no filth gives you chance to catch your breath and have a chat on a group ride.
Amount of road is an issue for some with that VG ride if you set off from Redmires there are two distinct road sections, which are unavoidable. I think the Stanage causeway is best approached from that direction though, it seems a real drag to ride up from Ladybower.
used to be quite fun, in a not too techy way, but was rather sanitized a few years back. wouldn't bother generally now, unless it makes up a loop and gets very busy. I'd avoid at weekends/half term/holidays etc. Ok for a night ride.
yeah jon, I'm trying to bring it in from Ringinglow way, so I can couple up Porter Clough and we can meet in the cafe at Forge Dam/Endlcliffe Park...
The track - commonly known as the Green Track or the Green Drive. Very busy with walkers at weekends, best used on a night ride. It doesn't have legal access for bikes.
right o - cheers Chris. Didn't think so
