Have all the creditors been paid for the first iteration of the Company?

Had the misfortune to see a bit of his YouTube video of him being dragged round Cannock by his mate on a throttle e-bike, quite the proper lad

I don't think so, but it was big globals, not material suppliers that took the hit. As well as Dan and the other investors

The business took a hit with various influencers and most of it can be summed up here rather than listing the details in a post. Dan strikes me as someone who is passionate about his brand and not out there to rip anyone off or chase huge profits

It's this the video of him nearly hitting a wall whilst blitzing about on an electric motorbike? Assuming it is, it's wholly irresponsible behaviour. Yeah, bikes sell internationally and the regs regarding use of these things vary, but in the UK we all know the rules.

And, for clarity, there's no such thing as a throttle ebike in the UK. They're electric motorbikes. And Cannock is public land so no excuse there either.

Dunno about Cannock... but this video has them riding around on the road on an unregistered, uninsured motorbike with faulty brakes and no helmet. Clickbait without any notion of responsibility.

Look, it’s ok as he’s middle class and doing it for a laugh. He’s so different from the lads I see round here. He’s a worthy ambassador for mountain biking.

Yeah...

After watching that video I think I'll give the Germans my money instead of Dan if I'm in the market for a Stanton frame.

That’s quite embarrassing.

I like e-bikes but the legal ones are already fast enough and these illegal conversions make them electric motorbikes which are too fast to be used safely as bicycles.

Releasing a video showing yourself testing an illegal conversion on a public road with poor sight lines, walls to crash into, brakes that aren’t working and no helmet as well?!?

Really can't say much positive about the bike either.  Ti must be the most stupid medium to use for an ebike frame

Opened this thinking it was Dan Atherton showing us how to ride their new one.

Nope, it's a nobhead showing us how to be a nobhead on an illegal electric motor bike.....Poor from Stanton bikes. Plenty of other companies to give my money to.

Not surprised he's going after the emotorbike crowd, it's growing faster than the mountain bike market is failing.

If you've seen your business go under once and made a bit of a hash of buying it back, then diversifying is understandable, just a shame they've gone down the "couldn't give two ****s" route.

Not a fan of the fella. Even less so now (I'm sure that doesn't need explaining!). Shame, as I do like the look of some of his bikes.

I mildly challenged him about the ethics of going into admin, writing of huge debts, and then continuing. He immediately resorted to name calling. Then his mates joined in with the name calling; then his mates pulled the post.

Total bell-end (well, he started it).

I’m interested to know @artist, what your view would be if someone was hurtling around Darley Dale in that manner instead of the narrow lanes of Tansley?

Is it all to do with who is breaking the law? If it’s someone “cool” or indeed, yourself, then it’s ok?

I wonder whether the police may be interested as there’s clear danger to others, driveways exiting onto the lane and at one point a lady walking up. A vehicle moving fairly quietly at that speed wouldn’t be what people were expecting!

I love my Stanton (26" wheeled Slackline bought new well over 10 years ago). But I decided a long, long time ago that I regretted not getting a BeFe/Soul and giving my money to Cotic instead.

One company owned by someone who, judging by weekly newsletters, is a top notch bloke who writes very intelligently on bikes and wider social context. The other - the exact opposite.

And the less said about the throbbers who hang out on the Stanton owners Facebook group the better.

Classic "love the product, hate the company"

Blimey there's a lot of out of proportion hand wringing going on here then! Watched bits of the video and yeah they shouldn't have been riding in on the road it could have taken a child's face off etc etc.

In the grand scheme of everything anyone can do wrong ever, it wasn't really that bad.

But taking the legality etc. out of it.....that conversation kit does actually look ace. Spendy mind you!

This wasn't some kids playing about for tiktok clout, this was a UK manufacturer doing...actually I'm not sure what his goal was.

Feel free to leave your hands un-wrung.  But then don't complain when the BBC talks about ebikes whenever someone is doing naughty stuff on Surrons.  You also don't get to complain when ebikes get banned from all trails.

Just buy your Stantons from Bike24:

You'll be giving your money to some morally dubious crafty Germans instead of Dan.

I get it, it's not a great look. But I very much doubt this video will have any impact on the situation whatsoever. Horse has already bolted etc.

I've been able to go and watch Sam Pilgrim  ( or take your pick of whatever other influencer) doing way more antisocial stuff for years.

This is a drop in the Ocean.

Most things individually don't have a huge impact by themselves.  And yes, there have been plenty mtb 'personalities' who have done way dodgier stuff, I'm sure.

But if you are saying that emtbs are going to get banned from the trails sooner or later and it's too late to do anything about it, so manufacturers might as well cash in any way they can while they still can then I have to disagree.

Who knows, maybe Dan knows Stanton is going to go tits up again soon so he's just trying to grab any market he can wring money out of.  But if he's looking to be a legitimate UK manufacturer going into the future he really shouldn't be selling his bikes with a 5000W motor as he is currently doing:

We’ve run the X1 Pro extensively on the Switch9er Ti, refining gearing, mounting, and setup. The result is a system that hits hard when you ask it to, but remains predictable and controllable when traction is limited — crucial for riding proper trails, not just fire roads.

Wow, that all seems a bit irresponsible with those conversions.

Think he's trying to appeal to the Surron brigade?

Can't see any justification in offering those conversions which are blatantly illegal for use anywhere other than 'private' land.....

That is actually on the website, jeez. A proper compliance and liability risk that I would not touch with a 10ft pole.
