Not actually a cross bike - an old road bike. First converted to fixed, then to SS as a CX bike. Ratio was 40x18 then 39x20 for the last HTN.

And in action at said HTN (photo courtesy of JohnClimber of this parish). Scuse the fat arse.

I have a genesis day one running 42x18 used almost daily for the commute and some off road detours on the way home - love it. No pics tho'!

Same as Cupra. Run it at anything from 42x18 to 42x14 fixed. Surprisingly capable off road.

Had a tricross then got my hands on a cross check. Recently changed the fork and dropped over half a kilo in the process, love this bike to bits. Used to run 42:16/19 but changed to 39:19 for my first race a few weeks ago and seemed about right for slow speed corners and still climbed past folk (although spinning out on flat straights)

If you want to see a gorgeous ss cx then ask Deano T (or find his flickr)

I have a flickr group folk are welcome, in fact encouraged to add to sscx

I think Rorscach off here used to race SS. Though each time he laps me he deffo has at least 9 sprockets....

Anyway, isn't SSCX more of an American thing?

I can't access flikr here but somewhere in the page will be some code that you can copy and paste into here to show the image.

It'll start {img}http:// except that the curly brackets { } will be square ones []

Fixed 38-16
[IMG] [/IMG]

SS 42-18
[IMG] [/IMG]

Gearing feels the same and now have 42-18 on the fixed some times think 42-16 would work better fixed but not got round to trying yet

solarider, good luck mate, hope you have a helper to clean your spare bike each lap. ive ripped 2 campagnolo mechs to pieces this season due to mud build up!

My 2 have never met. One lives in the UK and one at our place in the Alps.

The Alps tends to be dry, dusty riding, so not too heavy on kit. I have never had too much of a problem with Campagnolo and CX.

With their CX specific wheels and chainsets, it seems that they are the only one of the big 3 really aiming squarely at CX so your problems sound particularly annoying I am sure. Having said that, I won't use anything above Chorus in the UK. Too much carbon and expensive kit for the mud.

It's alright for my commute which is mostly flat and muddy but take it to the hills and it's a little bit tricky.

Here's mine when it was fresh. Planned changes = saddle to something comfy, 1 x 8 speed, better tyres for winter, but the small block 8's are great for commuting and in the summer. Oh, and lighter wheels.
