Purchased a used cyclo cross bike from here. Just back from first ride linking in road and bits of bridleway. Other than a hairy moment with the brakes, loved it - simple, minimal mud considering the rain we've had.

That is all.

Thanks

Could not agree more.
The skinny tyres make for much fun, drop bars are fun... now just ditch the gears and set it up fixed wheel.

Can you get better/whats the best/powerful rim brakes for cyclo cross bikes ? Frame/forks wont take discs. Currently has mini v front canti rear.

Couple of pics from previous owner.

well set up mini v's are excellent with plenty of stopping power. Only become a nusiance when the wheels get dinged, they are so close to the rims it doesn't take much for them to rub

Um... I get a seat of a Specialized tricross as there very comfortable and don't weigh much, and then get a nice inline post, syncros or thomson s/h would be good.

If you want more braking power you could try these :

http://www.dotbike.com/ProductsP7547.aspx?utm_source%3dinternal%26utm_medium%3dsite%26utm_campaign%3dDDI

or the more expensive and slightly blingy'er 720's

you need to make sure your heel doesn't catch the rear one though - I have them ion my jake the Snake and they are so much better that mini v's of regular canti's for me

I'd like to build a cross bike, but use Alfine disc hubs and flat bars. That would be a "cross cross commuter"

A bike with an identity issue! ๐Ÿ˜†

Cantis are very sensitive to set-up. Of course you get the usual issues like dirty rims and pads but the height of the straddle wire makes a big difference too - lower feels spongy and vague but is also a lot more powerful.
