I was talking to an old mate today and he was saying that he was going to walk coast to coast this year. Aiming to do it in 12 days. I heard another chap talking about doing it on bikes and taking 5-6 days.
Has anyone done it and would it be suitable for me and my 11 year old son? The mate doing the walk said that loads do it and there are people that can shuttle your clothes etc to a specified drop off point.
It sounds really good fun, and b&b must be plentiful and cheap!

Planning doing it with my wife and 2 other couples in the Autumn - my wife hasn't ridden a bike for 7 years

We're planning the Whitehaven to Sunderland one. There are at least 2 guides with routes etc available

Ilfracombe-Plymouth is a good coast-coast. Go via Croyde/Saunton and it's actually a coast-coast-coast.

I did Whitehaven to Tynemouth a couple of years ago. Set off Monday aft, finished Weds aft. Tuesday (Penrith to Rookhope) was a hard day.

Did it last year with a big group of non cyclists. 2 and a bit days Whitehaven to Sunderland. As someone else said... Penrith to Rookhope is hard - rest is easy. I had to pedal down from Hartside - the bloody wind was so strong!
