Looking into insurance for the bikes as we're his and hers now.

local shop has suggested SUNDAYS & i've had a look on go compare.

who do people use, do we need to insure separately?

For theft we add them to the home insurance including away from the home (has to be locked so would need evidence of D lock or similar if ever knocked). For cycling I've had a membership of BC or, currently, Cycling UK which has legal cover for accidents.

This. No specific requirements for locks and you dont even need to specify all of your bikes. Just the value of the most expensive one.

Even if you had £50k of bikes & said the most expensive was £10k?

Yes.  They do say locked to an immovable object away from home but don’t specify with what.  I have exactly the scenario you mention, have £50k of bikes in house and only had to tell them about the £9.5k one.  Very reasonable price for cover as well considering.

Household insurance not an option, just renewed

would i need separate insurance for me and wife for the legal/personal accident to work for each of us, like car insurance i suppose?

Legal cover that is part of your home insurance normally covers family living at home (as does the 3rd party liability cover included on most policies).

The cycling-specific legal cover provided by the likes of BC is individual.

Personal accident insurance is not normally part of either, although the legal cover will help you pursue a personal accident claim against a 3rd party.

What risks are you actually looking to insure against?
