[Closed] cycle commuters

Weather doesn't really decide if I ride in, I always do. This winter has been easy. Snowpocalypse of 2011 was byt far the worst year I've cycle commuted**. Temperatures lower than minus ten and snow over a foot deep* for months.

If I can't get in 6 miles on a mtb then it really is the apocalypse.

*compacted to ice, drifting on the toon moor to comedy 4+ feet.

**I say cycle commuted but I did a lot of jogging with a bike that year. Had a good cx season.

Couldn't be bothered, walked a couple of miles instead. I used to take pride in riding whatever the conditions but now I don't think it's worth it. Good fun in the park bits but just risky and no fun on the road bits, so no thanks.

"road bits" - that's your problem right there 😀

No way I'd be doing my commute in this weather if I had to do a significant amount by road.

yup; every day is bike. Car exists for longer journeys out of town only or where vast load capacity is actually useful.

My commute is about 6 miles of varied terrain including a bit of most things.

Only issues I've had this week:

1. My current gloves don't block enough wind and shifting with thumbs I can't feel is awkward. Gripshift suddenly makes sense...

2. The battery pack on my lights dies in one hour not 1½ hours at full blast (temperature again)

3. A painful reminder that high crossing bridges over roundabouts will be extremely icy. Altered route to avoid as even walking across it pushing bike (in SPD shoes) was lethal...

Great pic that^

My short journey was fun just now. Schwalbe city jet 1.5 slicks. Let some air out.
Just kept in a straight line in fresh snow and wizzed past all the stationary traffic

I'm only in that London but it's snowing quite a lot. Ride in was very nice, ride home will be interesting!

Ended up being the only one left out of 30 of us. I can walk home in 5 mins though. Still rode in this morning though. 🙂
Well you have to, don't you...

My cargobike handles great in snow.

I've commuted every day this year bar one and ridden every Sunday, decided to give the singlespeed mtb a go today (instead of the road bike). Wasn't as horrible as I thought.

Yes but it's only 4 miles. High winds and snowing on the way in, wasn't very pleasant in places. Mix of roads and trails. Dropped the pressure on the rear and had no issues.

Rode home 11 miles first thing this morning, 2 miles off road.
Wheels kept jamming with snow.
