MY employer, the DWP, is not going to implement C2W because of some sort of tax implications or some such stuff. Anyone know why they would be different to private companies? Anyone in another department in the civil service where this is actually in place? They have made a fuss about the fact we can get 15% off at evans, but I am sure you would benefit more from C2W. Have written to ask why? Cheers.

I worked for 6 years in the DWP (Job Centre Plus and The Pension Service). They said they were looking into it about 4 years ago. I didn't hear anything back from them despite a few follow ups. Local HR was moved to Newcastle (along with everything else it would seem) which made things much harder. Typical DWP practice.

MOD are not implementing it because they do not think it encourages non-cyclist to start cycling ๐Ÿ˜ฏ Maybe it gets 'taken full advantage of' by lots of existing cyclists but FFS, if HMRC bring in a tax break because they want companies to offer it and they believe it has a good outcome it does frustrate me when anothe major Whitehall department sticks 2 fingers up at them.....I feel like emailing Gus O'Donnell and citing this as department failing to work together as he requests ๐Ÿ™

MOD does offer an intereest free salary advance of a grand, taken back through salary deductions....if they think that helps encourage cycling I can't see why they think saving the tax, NI and VAT won't help more!

Oh, I just thought, this could be a VAT thing. Departments don't 'claim back VAT' on loads of stuff IIRC...could that be the tax implication DWP cite?

There was a post on here earlier about a local government worker complaining her employer wasn't doing it for tax implication reasons either
