my choice to break up the mtb and just have a CX bike for 2012 has hit its first snag - they are shit in snow! 😯

loads in West Yorkshire now, just been out for an hour as its just so deep in places.

sat home now dreaming of a Mukluk.

Well sir I raced the Vets national championships in 6" of snow.

Okay yes you had to pedal fast all the time and the cut on my knee hasn't healed properly in the last year...but.

That'll learn you!

The snow will be gone soon, anyway.

At what point does a CX bike become a drop-bar 29er?

never, it becomes a monster cross apparently 🙄

anyway OP, cant you race around on the back streets were the snow is a little compresed, but still rideable, could be quite fun.

My cx is better in snow than my karate monkey with 26" wheels on and 3" Nokian tyres was

And quite frankly that sounds dreadfully common.

I'd say a cx bike is better in snow than anything other than a fat bike.

2" tyres sink in too but twice the work, only 4" float.

Depends on your snow, once there's a bit of a crust on it even a fairly skinny tyre can float for long enough for you to pass over the pressure spot, as long as you've got some pace on anyway.

I am guessing you weigh less than me...and ride a lot faster 😉

In my experience the CX bike is generally better in deep snow than the MTB, and I'm a big old slow fattie
