[Closed] Cutting (splitting) a crown race .... Safe to do?

I'm swapping around the use of my Lefty fork (using a lefty for all kit) between bikes.

The current HS has an already split crown race which is needed for the adapter.

The new HS does not have a split crown race and one isn't available.

So I seemingly have one option ..... split the non split crown race. Is there any problem doing this?

Headset is a sealed jobbie but is fully integrated (no cups) if that makes a difference?

I'd probably do it but use a bit of bearing fit to stop the race spinning on the crown if the bearings get a bit sticky.

It's not actually a crown race so it'll be fine.

Fine. As scotroutes is I think saying the bearings are in a sealed unit so the "crown race" is not in contact with the important bit of the bearing.

I run my singlespeed like this as it makes it easier to swap forks over when I put rigid forks on for the winter months. Never had a problem. Simply took a fine tooth hacksaw blade to it. Cut a slot and tidied up with a small file and a bit of abrasive paper.
