I tried the 853 Genesis Altitude a while back and really liked it, sorted myself out at the time and forgot about it again. But with some time off the bike at the mo it's come back to haunt me. So it's got me thinking about going down the steel route, I had already been thinking about maybe trying out a steel 29er like the swift anyway.
I've tried a Soul, 456 and PA and for me the Altitude just felt better. I've also tried a P7 and it's not for me. So what else off the peg should I be looking at? Basically a hard hitting trail HT would be what I'm after, fast twisty singletrack the main fun with plenty of techy and DH fun too. Climbing ability is my least consideration.
But it also got me thinking about the (semi?) custom route. I've always liked the look of Curtis, so an XC 853 or Freeride frame could be nice. Then 18 bikes will be offering custom, and there's lugged loveliness from the likes of Demon Frameworks.
Any other custom options to tip into the hat?
Anyone that has gone custom - how did you find the experience? How was it choosing your geometry and options? Any mistakes? Anything you've learnt from the experience? Just any feedback really.
Oh, and if anyone wants to post pics of their pride and joy, feel free.
Thanks for your help.
