I've always been a fan of crud guards but since the new design of the rear guard with the 1 bolt fixing system I've knackered 3 brackets so far.
The first 2 were due to getting an early version with incorrect shims, but this was a known issue and the crud chaps kindly sent new brackets/shims.
Trying to take the 3rd bracket off though last week after it's been on the bike all winter the bolt was just spinning in it's socket so unable to unscrew to take it off. Got to the point where I've had to cut the ruddy thing off the bike as was too slack to keep on but impossible to take off.
Not looking forward to one day having to remove 2 further guards off the missus bikes.
Anyone got any other alternatives that are good value for money and can be easily taken off a bike?
i'm with you on that one. the newer bracket is not as good. they should change the nut / plastic to have a better grip on each other.
I've ended up using the bracket section as a new mount for my video camera. its quite good as it can attach to the seat post, stem, steerer etc .
Drilled a 1mm hole in the alu nut so I could unscrew the other side. Probably shouldn't have had to though....
I've been a fan of the SKS X-tra Dry for a few years
Newer front Crudguard - much better.
Newer rear Crudguard - much worse.
The Topeak Defender is even less durable ๐
Hmm I was looking at the Topeak Defender yesterday, couldn't quite convince myself the fixing would be secure.
There's also a Cycraguard, anyone had experience of these?
The Cycraguard is sturdy enough.
Good points
Not broken
Never had to manually readjust the position excepting that...
Bad points
QR is ok
but will slip around the eat tube if you knock it
and it's too narrow towards the front end so that I still get wet on occasion
Ugly points
it's ugly
