I've been offered a new job and would need a cross bike to be able to continue commuting a couple of days a week.
For those that know the Lothians, home in Penicuik, poss new job in Livingston so it would be about 20 miles each way, half over the Pentlands and half on minor roads.

I'm 6 foot 6 so need something large and strong.

Any recommendations, budget would be up to about 800 (new or used). Maybe up to the 1k c2w limit if they run the scheme (but I duobt it)

thanks in advance

Not quite as tall as you, but I'm more than happy with my Kona Jake the Snake. I've got a 60cm one, I think they do a 62cm version as well.

You might want to have a look at the Planet X Kaffenback or Uncle John. Don't have one I'm afraid, but I do have an On One 29er XL size. At 6'4" with 36-37" inside leg, it the best fitting bike I've ever owned.

Get them on a good day and the prices are hard to beat too.

6'4" here on an XL tricross singlecross (they do geared ones too). They make an XXL, i was between sizes and went for the slightly smaller The XXL would fit you I reckon. Nothing bad to say about it, and I recommended a tricross to a friend (geared one) and he's also happy with it.
