Hi all
I'm sure this has been done to death but I'm building up one of the above from a frameset. Either 2015 Croix or the new Equilibrium disc
Given that both have a carbon fork, and there is really very little in it, geometry-wise, would I actually notice the difference if built up as road-focussed bikes?
I prefer the idea of the equilibrium as a more road-oriented thing but the Croix is cheaper and doesn't have a stupid combination of flat-mount and post-mount brakes.

No idea if you'd notice a difference, but here's one built as a road bike, not mine though.

Yes thanks I saw that picture and that is what inspired me to look at the Croix de fer as an alternative.
Get the road bike; there's a reason they produce a road bike and a "cross" bike. They're quite different. Whether you'd notice is really how you set the thing up. THe trail figure for the CDF is quite a bit larger than the Equilibrium, steering will probably feel very slow with a long stem like you'd have on a road bike. Also the stays are a good bit longer. Probably be a bit heavier aswell.

I have a 2015 Croix De Fer 30 and a 2016 Defy Advanced Pro 2. On my local back road 25 mile loop the Defy is about 5 mins faster on a ride of around hour and 25 mins and thats with 25c GP4000II's vs Conti CrossSpeed 35's. The CDF is a lot heavier, a lot more upright, but still a fast enough ride. I reckon with light tyres and wheels like the earlier post it would be a bit quicker. I use it off road a bit and for touring, so it is perfect for me. But, I also have a light road bike.....
I reckon for road only use I'd go for the Equilibrium, or a Defy ๐
I don't understand why anyone would build a CDF up as a pure/fast roadbike? It's designed for general commuting/touring/rough road use... the description on Genesis' site is clear and they surely know which bike is best for which purpose
For a fast road bike I'd go for the Equilibrium - all the reviews I've ever read seem to rate it highly.
OP - call Genesis and ask them. I'd be really surprised if they suggested CDF for use as a main road bike
Thanks. It will be mainly road use (commuting and longer weekend riding) but the capacity for big tyres if the mood takes me is appealing
On the big tyre front, it depends what you want them for I think. On crappy tarmac I find the carbon Defy on 25's at 90 PSI every bit as comfy as the steel CDF on 35's at 65 PSI.
Where the CDF excels is once the tarmac finishes..
