Must be crewcabbed or be able to have seats added and £6k is the upper limit price wise. Will put a lot of miles on it too.

What is there?

You could probably get a decent Hilux for that money.

transit crew van, ex utilities
can keep the bikes inside, sleep inside, stand-up to change inside
comfy seats, simple, mile crunchers

not for speedy overtaking, but you are basically looking at commercial vehicles

Not that big. Something normal wheelbase and height - transporter sized.

ex-AA transpoter springs to mind, the south west is over-run with these.

or get seats & windows fitted after, this way you have a wider choice.

For that budget:

Transit (4-5yo) lots available and hundreds of options

Renault traffic/ vauxhall vivaro (4-5yo) less available in crew cab, these are known to have gearbox issues.

VW - your looking at either a bit ropey or very old/ high mileage for 6k.

I'd be looking for a transit - not the best van but pretty good to drive (for a van) parts and servicing is not too expensive and there is a lot of choice (you can be picky)

Would a Fiat Mutipla with a tow bar rack do the job? Pig dog ugly though!

transits aint what they used to be - my fathers 08 transit has been a pig. owned since new , owner driven and regular driving and dealer servicing - so much so that it put me off buying one when i bought my peugeot.both his older (F plate and K plate) smiley faces just kept on trucking even with 200k on the clock comparitively to his new one they were bombproof - look at transit an transit connect issues on google.

electronics/ecu , EGR valve ,windowwiper motors , heated windscreen failed , shoddy interior thats falling to bits after 50k and brakes have failed. needless to say at the end of its lease its going back - hes never been so glad to have leased a vehicle.
