Had 2 rides with maxxis raze on these and 2 walks home!

Big burp and tyre off rim at 50psi, and big pinch puncture that wouldn't seal at 40psi.

Anybody got recommendations for tyres that work better and at what pressure?

Cheers

Anyone had any joy with these?

I ran those Vittorias at Mayhem, albeit tubed, on 29er Crests.

They have "Min Pressure 60psi" on the sides which obviously goes above the Crest suggestions (but that might be for going tubeless). I ran the fronts at 60psi and rears at 75psi with a view to not touching down on the rims.

I let the air out to fit the wheels in bin bags for the return journey and the beads looked like they stayed well seated. Could make them a good candidate for tubeless?

Tick. I'm interested in this. Was about to look at the schwalbe racing Ralph but all schwalbe are now not recommended for stans rims. Also wondered if the Bonty cx0 might work.

What's this, none at all? Was hoping to get some 29er Crests and run some TLR Schwalbes (Rons / Ralphs) - is this no longer an option?

I'm running tubes with Armadillo Elites on crest 29ers, live in fear of getting a puncture cause getting the tyre on was an absolute pain in the cock !

Drain, have a look at the stans site. It's on there. Scuppers my plans as well.

Called Planet X and those Vittoria tyres are an older, non tubeless ready, version. The search continues! I also was thinking Schwalbe but as a last resort due to the price.

There must be a decent option?

Oh, similar experience to Federalski, they are a bitch to fit. I'm thinking it might just be Crests as the Maxxis Beavers I had were a sod as well. Thrilled to hear Schwalbes aren't recommended, I've got Rons & Ralphs to fit!

Some good info here: http://www.cxmagazine.com/going-tubeless-cyclocross-tires-racing-recommendations

I've got a new pair of Crests for CX duties, amongst other things. I haven't done anything serious yet, but my 35mm Racing Ralph went up and stayed up tubeless, and went on easy (might make it a candidate for burping I admit).

I think the OP might have had a problem with Maxxis Raze if they're wire bead one = stiff sidewalls. The bloke with the CrosslightPro6 was running folding Razes on Crests...hang on...there you go, here: http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/my-new-head-down-bottom-up-crosslight-pro-6

Onzadog, don't know if I'm looking in the right place on the Stans site, but I can't find a reference to Schwalbe being A Bad Thing on their rims on the page that covers which tyres

recommended tires (sic) 😉

There do seem to be some threads on various other fora but like me they're a bit confused as to why Schwalbe would get singled out specifically e.g. here (will this get blocked?!)

Schwalbe has reduced the bead diameter by a mill or two this year to make them tighter, unfortunately Stans have also made their rims a mill or 2 bigger. They are almost impossible to get on now. We have switched to Maxxis tyres and find them a much easier fit.

Drain, that's the right page but they've taken off the statement about schwalbe now. How odd. I'll try to remember to ask why on their forum later.

i'm running same rims on a cotic x for cyclocross. I fitted the Stan's Raven tyres, they've been fine up to now with what I believe just one incidence of a burp where one lost a little pressure, this was on a very rocky trail. Got them off justridingalong, not cheap.
Inflated to the max recommended pressure of 45psi.
I'm sure I read somewhere that the Maxxis Raze didn't work too well tubeless when doing my research into a suitable tyre.

Thanks for that VF - may have to pony up for the Raven's. Just checked the hole made during yesterdays incident and it doesn't look fixable.

Do they ride well? Mine are for a new Cotic X too.

It was one of the Just Riding Along guys who recommended the Raze's and in fact looking now, there is a blog entry saying he ran them without issue. That was on Alpha rims though...

Anyone tried the Bontrager tyres tubeless?

Onzadog, as someone I think pointed out on That Other Forum 😉 , singling out Schwalbe without some specific evidence is probably actionable, which might be why they're removed it 😈

And which might mean that Schwalbe are no more/less likely than others to pop off the rims. Blazin-saddles' point about the tyre size decrease / rim size increase might be a better reason that they're not such a good idea!

Wonder if current Hope Hoops stock is made with the older rims, so perhaps a bit less of a tight fit faff...

As the link above ive had Maxxis raze on and off a few times now with no issues. Theyre the folding version and i run an extra wrap of tape round to help blow them up. Works fine for me.

I'm using folding Raze's. They go on and blow up fine but the issue is not being able to put enough pressure in to stop them pinching. I'm hoping a tubeless comparable tyre will have stronger side walls as on a mountain bike to avoid this. I'm about 90kg so no racing snake.
