Have built up this nobel steed just two months ago, I'm now at a loss as what to do with it. Everything seems to creek and groan when I pedal. Something clicks under strain, and the linkage squeaks when riding over small ruts. The whole rear end chatters like a Gatling gun when going downhill, which, in rockgardens becomes completely unbearable and really affects focus.

I've been a cycle mechanic for the past 4 years, but I just don't know where to look for these noises!? All the gear is new and has been fitted correctly- do I take to a bike shop? Or will I be ripped off? It's just not as fun to ride with all these niggels.

Help!?!

do I take to a bike shop?

Just take it into work and let work mates rip into you

Classic bit of helpful advice there. I fix and restore vintage bikes. Something I should have elaborated on.

Grease all round the mech hanger, the wheel axles and the seat post clamp. Do everything back up tight.

My recent creaking was pedal threads, it made a right racket too.

My recent creaking on a carbo 456 evo was the bottom bracket. Swapped out and fine.

Is the creaking all the time or just pedalling? If pedalling it might just be the pedals, bb.

I have a liteville 301, and there are lots of bearings to look after, but nice frames.

its groaning in embarrassment at being called a noble steed ๐Ÿ˜‰ Sounds like you want to strip it all down - grease and locktight where appropriate, and torque correctly.
Or it may just be the seat post

Wow! You must be gutted, that's a lovely bike. A bit of wet and mud usually helps! I found my latest click after ~4 weeks, it was a loose spoke! Swapping stuff in and out is one way, once you've been through the whole is it when I pedal, is it when I'm seated, is it when... thing.

The saddle creeks, but the whole thing still creeks when pedalling. This will be my second pair of V8s in two months if they're knackered, the last pair did click a lot as well.
@rob2 - do you happen to know how to if liteville cover bearing replacements ?

Thanks Trekster, I'll contact him. Any idea how to stop a mech hitting the Horst link?

Don't know about bearing replacements but worth giving Bromley bikes a ring where I got mine from.

Not much use maybe but a clutch mech won't hit the Horst link. I've not yet worked out how to stop the rear mech cable rubbing through the link yet though!

You could wrap and old bit of innertube around the Horst link to see if it stops the noise. Then find a neater solution. I think you can get a rubber boot for the mech. Lappier used to do one with there bikes as the Horst link was close to the mech.

I also own a liteville 301 that has begun clicking/creaking under pedal load. I have however just installed new pedals, a 40t-rex expander and a hope 32t retention ring. It was silent previously.

My plan is to go for crankbolts first (i don't think i lubed the threads enough, bb re-grease, check pedal torque and re-grease interface between cassette and free hub body.

Check this park tool page out for help. http://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-help/trouble-shooting-a-creaky-or-noisy-drive-train

I'm obviously biased having dropped phat wedge on it but the bearings and general construction are meant to be bomb proof, which holds up IME, Ive never heard a peep coming from the linkage.

Check out the liteville faq page http://www.liteville.de/t/25_106.html and manual http://syntace.my1.cc/liteville/pdf/Bedienungsanleitung_Liteville_301_Mk10_englisch_ver-02.pdf and if all fails head to a local shop. Paying for professional experience isn't a rip off as long as they fix the problem, keep a receipt for the work done and keep taking it back till silent.

Hope you get the bike. I think it's a ripper.
