[Closed] Crc customer service and fitting cable rubbers!

I've bought one of the discounted yeti bikes off Crc. It's come today and has about 5 issues I'm not happy with. Damage on stem cap, scratch on frame and missing or loose cable rubbers.

Anyone know what the customer service is like with them? Don't want to be sending the bike back and forth.

And anyone know the best way to fit the rubber cable grommets to the frame without taking the cable back out the frame ?

Do you mean the cable donuts that stop the inner rubbing the frame mate? Other than doing some bodge I don't see any way of fitting them without removing the inner.

Or...do you mean the grommets which go into the frame to protect the cable outer and frame? Though I would think the same applies, cable needs removing to fit missing ones. Dislodged ones, I'm not so sure.

CRC don't seem to get quite the have review for cs they used to but seem ok on the whole.

The only thing is be really concerned about (as I am a tart with bikes) is the scratch on the frame. How bad is it?

I assumed this, also can't see any way. It's what i had to do to swap some recently.

You can put a little radial cut in a cable donut with a razor or Stanley blade and then just slot it over the inner. Works fine, some used to come like that.

It's the oval shape rubbers to protect the cable and frame. They have a small slit in to slot them over the cable. Scratch is about 1.5cm long and near the crank so quite low down but I'm also a bike tart so it's annoying! I've emailed them but no reply as yet

usually if its a set up problem they offer you a credit up to a certain amount to get it fixed at a bike shop (yes irony) but as for scratched frames etc not sure. if they have no other stock they may just offer you a credit note to spend with them as compensation

Well they have offered 50 quid in vouchers for the scratch. An FSA top cap instead of a yeti one. And some new spacers for the stem. Pretty crappy offer on a 2.7k bike if you ask me. No mention of fitting the cable rubbers and who's fitting them

Sounds a reasonable offer to me. With regard the rubber donuts, I wouldnt have expected it to come with them fitted anyway unless stated in description.

I'd send the whole thing back and get them to replace it if possible. If it cannot be replaced I suppose I would still be happy if the discount on the new bike was large enough in the first place.

Seems fair for a tiny scratch in a hidden place. Just fit the grommets yourself using a pokey stick of choice - would take longer to get someone else involved than just doing it. I’ll admit that the top cap might irk me slightly - ask Silverfish if they have any lying around?

People fit those ? How do you get them on the full length outer than any bike being ridden in the UK will have ?

Rubber bumpers are a non event really.

It's in a kind of obvious place so it's doing my head in a bit. It's top side of the crank, if it was the bottom of the frame I wouldn't be as fussed.
I can't put an FSA top cap on cause it will drive me mad

I assumed he means grommets for where cables enter/exit the frame?

Yeah it's where they enter the frame cable holes, not the ones to stop rubbing on the frame. Frame is all internally routed

Discounted frame and got some money back to spend? Sounds like a good deal. Top cap is just that, if you don't like it, find one on eBay you like.
Sounds a bit harsh but you got a bargain (as it was already discounted) and got an offer of money back in vouchers for something that can be covered (either with something or mud).

It will be scratched as soon as you ride it. I got a discount on a scratched bike ! It's still pristine though, I too a bike tart.

No I'm aware it will get scratched in the future at some point. But if you bought a new car you wouldn't expect a scratch on it. I don't see why bikes are any different.

They do top caps from silverfish for a tenner so I'll just get that I think.

Although I can't get this P@#&#&G cable rubber back in to save my life!

But if you bought a new car you wouldn’t expect a scratch on it.

I'd expect a healthy discount, which you got by avoiding buying it from a bike shop & then some spending money on top. No car dealer would give you that.

Buying online at discounted prices is a risk. If u'd bought it from a shop and picked it up

A) it'd be properly set up

B) you could have checked it for blemishes before it left the shop.

I think you are over thinking it. Just go ride the thing

Or send it back and get a refund and start from square one.

40% off and you’re worried about a scratch? I’d say 2 grand discount is worth it. With Yeti’s reputation, a scratch is the least of your worries.

Slit cable rubber with scalpel blade.
Fit.
Pinch open, drop of superglue.
Pinch closed.
Allow superglue to bond.
Job jobbed.

Too many people confused about internal routing rubber frame bungs, if they've ended up inside the frame,(doubtful, but I'm not familiar with frame) it's a re-do routing job, £50 vouchers is poor considering it's about £15 worth to them. Burgtec caps with matching colour bolt look great. Find the colour code and get a touch up pen, yes it's annoying, I had a similar issue, but I scratched my frame worse within a month. If they've got another, you're within your rights to swap, bit of a faff but they might improve offer if you want to return it.

Hello again op.

Ive only ever had to fit the oval protectors to a frame once. I remember it being a pain but there were various bits of info around to help from memory.

I think these included bunging them in the fridge/using certain lubes/ different methods of levering them into the frame.

I think the real issue here is if you can live with the scratch. Trouble with sending it back is that they might go oos or the new bike has worse wrong with it. Both of those events would REALLY annoy me.lol

Personally I'd probably go with a really good colour match and touch in the scratch myself i think.

That said, for all the advice above from me and others, it's you're hard earned and you are the only one that needs to be happy with the outcome. Not us lot of cantankerous gits.😁

You Got off lightly! I "bought" a Pine Mountain from them in the Summer. Ordered a Medium they sent a Small 🤔Then it got fun! Turns out they don't have any Medium's left (did they have any in the 1st place?)
For my inconvenience they offered me £30 to keep it?? 🤔🤔🤔Then began the process of returning it!!! Took about a month to sort!
Would seem I had a lucky escape as Ive since found out they'd done a "deal" on the bikes. Marin weren't happy and refused to honour any potential warranty issues on them.
