MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
Any feedback would be appreciated. especially if they are suited to heavier riders 100kg+. cheers.
unless they are better than any of their other wheel sets not really.
Yep, they're good, I've got a set of 26 Cobalts and Iodines that have had no issue with apart from a snapped spoke (which wa repaired under warranty within a week) easy to maintain, change bearings etc.
Just got some Iodine 29 which I very impressed with and light for all mountain wheels.
Hmmm Ive been running a set on my commuter for the last year and tbh no issues with them..
(3.5-4k Miles no servicing or truing req'd ) I'm around 80kg but this wasn't giving them any real offroad abuse apart from kerb jumping..
Only issue I've got is my set won't take the adaptor to go 142x12 but seriously thinking of getting another set.
(I'd build a set of hopes and flows but tbh the cost alone of the hope hubs puts me off.)
I had 26inch iodine 3s used them for everything I could ride up to light DH, no issues everyone slags them off because early ones had issues with hubs but I loved mine
I have a set in 26 that I am yet to fit.
Did a lot if googling before buying and found plenty of people quick to slag them off, but, every one of them had never actually owned a set.
Also found plenty of praise from, you guessed it, people who actually had.
Go figure.
So bought them, and will fit in the spring.
ws but tbh the cost alone of the hope hubs puts me off
There's not much in it price-wise, unless you're buying used and then you're into really dodgy CB hub territory.
Every time someone talks about cb wheels that stupid article gets posted by whoever teamrobot are . I've had three sets of their wheels now, two new and one second hand off here with zero troubles. They look great and perform the same with the only weak link their uniqueness so you can be caught out if you haven't got spare spokes while out riding. That's not too hard to sort though really with a bit of forward thinking.
Sorry, but the article is spot on (and hilarious to me at least). Not just about Crank Bros pointlessly different wheels with non-standard everything for no benefit whatsoever, but most factory built wheels that tie you into their specific parts.
yep had two sets of the iodine 2's now in 26 and 29er, I am over 100kg and have always been impressed with how well they stay in shape.
also surprisingly easy to true and the warranty is fantastic!
Don't forget Merlins 10% makes 2 or 3s real reasonable just trying to decide whether to go for 2 or 3s 🙁
Cheers for the replys. My main concern is the weight with the low spoke count for a 29er wheel. Looking at the reviews the freehub problems were all early models. But I'm sure there still are the occasional duff ones. Merlin does look good with 10% discount! I can get Flow Ex rims on nice hubs 310 quid though. Around 35 quid of a difference.
What I did noticed is they are wider for 2014 on all the CB wheel models. I am guessing the ones on sale are the older model. Still looks like a nice deal though.
The early freehubs had a terrible rep (iirc WMB had a review set seize). I think the 2014 wheels have completely revised internals as well as a new rim cross-section.
