The frame on my 2005 enduro cracked yesterday at the weld on the left chainstay about 3 miles into a run round cannock. I gather this is a common failure.

I called Leisure lakes, they looked up my details on the system, and confirmed that they would get the rear triangle replaced under warranty within a week.

Just thought I'd highlight good customer service by specialized and leisure lakes.

It is good service, but don't hold your breath for a replacement that is the same colour as your existing frame.
Also, the replacements, while supposedly stronger, can also fail. I cracked four in total, including two reinforced replacements.
In the end, I got the whole frame replaced because I also cracked the main frame; it went on the curved butress that supports the seat tube as it splits to accomodate the damper.

Bit premature there maybe, a week sounds like it would be good service.

They had my Specialized in for about 5 months and lent me a Cannondale. I eventually went in to pick up my bike and didn't initially tell them that I still had their bike.

They didn't have a clue.

I did of course return their bike, but my stuck down shock never was fixed properly.

ok I'll post an update in a week or so's time and let you all know if everything came together properley.

It was the good attitude to fixing it that impressed me so far, no quibbles, no arguments, just bring it in and we'll get it sorted. This is 4 years after I bought the bike from them.

Also they did sort out a problem I had with the 5th element shock right at the very beginning of my ownership very quickly also, so no complaints from me so far.

I'd rather have a rear triangle the same colour as the rest of the frame, but I did read elsewhere thats unlikely to happen, but I'm not that much of a bike tart that it would bother me hugely, the frame is scratched and chipped allover anyway.

I said I'd update this thread when the bike was fixed.

I received a text yesterday to say that the bike was ready for me to collect , so I'll be heading down there tonight to pick it up.

So thats just over a 1 week turnaround on a warranty job, where the parts had the be sent from specialized.

As I said in my first post, I'm pretty impressed by the service, both in terms of honouring the warranty from specialized and quick turnaround from leisure lakes.

just picked the bike up, the chainstays are now black, which was kind of expected.

What wasnt expected was that they have replaced the chainstays with a completely different type. The new chainstays are symmetrical, whereas the old one was assymetric (with the non drive side being higher than the drive side)

I've seen pictures of replacement chainstays with effectively an extra plate welded where the old ones crack, but I've not seen this symmetrical stay before.

Anyone know anything about this?

I thought chain stays are usually higher on the drive side to accommodate the chain etc?
