Hi, I am very lucky to be given a Cotic x rolling chassis.
I was thinking Of building as a flat bar commuter, as flat bar means I have most of not all spares. However looking at the Cotic website it was never meant to be FB.
So should I do it anyway, or go drop bar with mechanical discs.

Mine is drop bar with a 70mm stem and it feels right like that, I can imagine it would feel a bit weird with flat bars.
But if you have the other bits, just pop the forks, wheels, seat and post, bar and stem on it and sit on it see what it feels like
Definitely suck it and see, not much to lose if you have the bits already! I converted a an old Genesis CDF to flat bar and it works really well for commute/ pub bike/ kiddy trailer towing duties…
Someone is bound to have an unfashionably long stem you could borrow to try flat bars, minimum 90mm should work. I’d consider drops and mechanicals myself though… still using using Avid mechanicals on my Escapade budget build.

I’ve got some second hand spyres coming so I’ll just go drop bars.
Seems to have stacks of clearance, 42mm tyres are fine but not tried with mud guards.
Need a 1 1/8 lower Hope headset bearing, Then that’s it.

It’s a bit chewed up, so I’ll get a cheap ali one for now.
Next question, are IS to post mount adapters the same front and rear?
Yes, sort of.
The same one will give you 20mm more on the front, eg the adapter you need for 160mm rear is the same as you need for 180mm front, 180mm rear is the same one for 200mm at the front, etc

I have a couple of rears, I might try filing one down.
Watch your back lifting it. Bought mine just after new year 2011. Still gas pipe but done 10's of thousands of miles.
I’ve been shifting an ebike around the garage so it feels super light!
