Been on 120mm since new but the forks are a tad shagged.
Considering a set of pike ultimate set at 140mm. I guess steep climbing might be a bit trickier but downhill should be fun.
I've run forks with longer travel than specified on a hardtail. Only issue I had was the already slack seat tube was made slacker so not great for climbing. Think it was the same as you 120 to 140 and the seat tube angle was 74 degrees initially. Was great on the downs.
If the Pike is a bargain, I'd say try it and if it's too slack then swap in a shorter air shaft. If you can do a lowers service you can do an air shaft.
Yeah, I had to push the saddle right forward on the rails on mine at 140mm. Rode well with the longer forks though. Better? For me, yes.
Cheers both, perhaps I would have to get one of those tilty seat things as well 😀
Which age Solaris? If it is a Max (i.e. not the latest one or the first-gen one) then it was always designed around 120-140 anyway I believe so should be fine?
My Solaris Max is at 140, always has been  and I love it!
Dont overthink it. Run them nice and plush with one or two more spacer than normal so they are really progressive and dont bottom out, so a reasonably low dynamic ride height and some good droop travel. Feels good on a hardtail.Â
Tried it, it worked fine. Back on 120 and I think nicer for how I use the bike (it’s my xc bike) but either a perfectly good option.
Run 20mm over plenty of times without issue on various bikes.
It was the last shape max. So sounds like 140 is fine. Happy daysÂ
Yep in that case it was designed for 120-140mm anyway so all good! Luckily Cotic keep their old product pages open so you can check back on spec's etc. (although generally have to find them via a google rather than navigating the site unless I'm missing it:
Ah yes there it is, it was just me not looking particularly hard!
