Has anyone tried this, if so is there a minimum/maximum tyre size you should use, or should I just use 700c wheels? I was thinking about this after seeing the Daily Bread bikes http://www.dailybreadcycles.net/configure.php?lang=en
I've got a roadrat but do like the look of that Dailybread. Using my roadrat singlespeed and love it but don't like horizontal drop outs for adjusting chain tension. EBB seems a nicer solution. If you use discs then I don't think there's a problem using 26" wheels though I think you'd lose some speed compared to using skinny 700cs
I'd never seen those Daily Breads. Nice.
I'm sure I've read that you can go up to 1.8 inchers on the Roadrat. That's knobbly tyres, I guess you could go bigger if the tyre was less knobby. Though that'd prolly kinda defeat the point, and you may as well use 700c if you're using a very slick tyre.
I ran my Rat with 26" and discs - just 'cos that's all I had available. It was absolutely fine - fast, 50psi + in the tyres (1.5" cheapo centre ridged hybrid tyres from Halfords, then eventually some posh Conti ones) and I ran it singlespeed and 1x9. It always had discs on it - that was kind of the point of the bike, I thought, but it also allowed me to run full mudguards too. It was easy to set up, loads of clearance with those tyres on, and I can recommend it.
Not the prettiest of pictures taken a while back, but it gives you the idea...
(oh, I've learnt a thing or two about chain tension since then, too... ) ๐ณ
