Looking at taking the wife away for a couple of day's after her birthday and i have found some uber cheap deal's for a few day's in the lukewarm sun, now has anyone visited the Benelmadena area in the early month's of the year, if so what is it like, are most place's open and weather generally OK?

Yep. Went on a Globespan package. Hired a bike and had 2 days biking with sierracycling who are along the strip a bit in Fueguerola which is a bit nicer than Benalmadena. Train runs all the way along the Costas to the airport and Malaga.
It is very quiet btw which was good. No shortage of cafes but seaside restaurants closed.
