Hi im new to here, but just bought a Kona lanai deluxe, after 8 years on off with a GT....Now bike looks great and is probably ample for my on/off road stuff, but question is will i want better in 3 months or will i be happy to add other parts later.I have 15 days left, if i want to take back to Evans.
I know 1st response will be only you know, but would appreciate a more in-depth view.
Thanks for any replies
Just ride it and enjoy it. When stuff breaks replace it. The frame should be worth upgrading as time goes on as long as you don't go mad.
There are possibly better spec'd bikes out there for the same money though.
Thanx for reply...better spec as in which ? i paid £340
Ps. noticed Trek at £340 wi discs, not avail 2 weeks ago.
When I started riding again, about 6 years ago, my first bike was a Kona Cindercone.
It was a great bike and I loved it dearly. it wasnt the best specced or the latest greatest but it always left wanting to just ride. I also had a Kona Dawg Supreme which again left me grinning always.
Get it, ride it, ride it some more.
Enjoy 🙂
will i want better in 3 months
If you keep coming here, then yes, the pretty pictures will eventually suck you in and convince you, that you need a new one or another one and another...
"still s8tannorm" is on the ball, take that on board & just get out ride it, and enjoy it.
Maybe upgrade the forks when you can afford it, replace everything else as it wear out.
bikes matter to some degree depending on terrain but most of the stuff I ride I ride on an old bike quite poorly specced tbh.
There is no point IMHO of blowing loads of money if you are only just getting back into it- in winter will you still ride?
Wait till next year if you are still loving it then upgrade-a fork improvement will give you the most noticable improvement followed by some good quality hydraulic brakes.
there is your answerNow bike looks great and is probably ample for my on/off road stuff,
but question is will i want better in 3 months or will i be happy to add other parts later
yes if you get really in to it.
If you are rich and can blow a grand or two now then you may wish to but you would take a sizable hit reselling it too even next year [33% minimum of paid price]
I would ride and make a decision next year based on use
Cost of bike does not equal fun but it may equal speed and confidence which just means faster crashing 😀
Ok,all taken on board.
