I've got a Transition Double as my jump bike/pump track bike. It's currently geared but I'm thinking of making it singlespeed. The current drivetrain was taken off my old trail bike which had seen a fair amount of use.
The plan is to use a Yess ETR/D tensioner and a singlespeed conversion kit on the cassette. This would be paired up with my old XT chain and chainring.
Am I likely to get skipping or is that not such a problem with singlespeed setups? I'm trying to this on the cheap, hence the desire not to buy a new chain/chainring.
Ive alway used old bits and never really had a problem
But this will be paired with a brand new single speed sprocket on the rear.
I'd recommend you get a 1/8 chain. KMC S1 much cheapness at the moment (2.88), if you can live with a brown chain that is
To be honest I hadn't realized how cheap chains might be, even if I push the boat out to a non-brown one!
Unfortunately I live in the US, so I'll have to think of some other stuff to buy from CRC to get a free shipping.
i went to charlie the bike monger - couldve been easier and after giving the bike a beating over xmas its still going strong
Charlie's a really nice bloke, I've had a couple of chats with him recently regarding wheels.
+1 about Charlie. Really helpful in sorting me out with a singlespeed kit for my Scandal. AND you get stickers! Stickers are kool.
Ohhh stickers!
CTBM stickers, I'm even more interested now.
Good for sticking and you're right they're way Koooollllllllllllllllll
