[Closed] Converting coil pikes to air - How easy is this?

I have some coil 454 which are brilliant. However I would like to save a bit of weight on my new build and don't mind giving up a bit of plushness to loose a few grams.

How easy is this to do and how much is it going to cost me?

Before someone comes along and gives you a how to do it guide..
the weight difference will be so small you'd be better off losing weight elsewhere.

What sort of bike is it?

A heavy 'do everything' full susser. I'm not fussed about the time issue, but if it is going to cost me an arm and a leg I don't think I will bother.

I think it would be a noticeable amount of weight - however it would not be at all straightforward if possible at all I think

probably possible - talk to someone like Loco Tuning or TFT and they will advise, and probably help to supply parts if you go ahead, but TBH, if your pikes are good, i'd get another fork, and either hang on to them or flog them. i doubt conversion will make sense financially given some of the deals you can get on sektors and revs now.

Ok think I will try and swap them for the air version, sounds like too much hassle.

Coil Pikes are much better than air ones (I've had both); for the sake of less than a pound, I'd enjoy the current ones.

If you want to keep the U-turn (ie go air-uturn), you don't save that much weight.

IIRC the stanchions are identical so technically its dead easy, the problem is that the coil spring rubs inside the leg and trashes the surface so you can never get a good seal - you'll need a new CSU...

My experience having had both air and coil u-turn is that the coils are much plusher on the small stuff, but they're a bit too linear, the airs deal with big hits better.
