Morning all...

Any issues with the parts below for converting my roadrat to 1 * 10?

nope. I'd go kmc chain personally.

11-28 is what I run on my commuter, with a 39t ring. Works fine.

I put my old 9spd stuff on mine with the existing alfine chainset. 11-32 I think on the back and I use them all.

Your setup might be cheaper with an MTB shifter/mech, for some reason the road flat bar shifters seem quite expensive.

I used to run 46 * 11-34t for london commuting and not-too-hilly touring on my hybrid.

Horatio - I noticed the cost of the shifter was high, but overall it equalises out because the rear mech is a lot cheaper.

I'm currently running a Doval narrow-wide but before that it was a Surly stainless ring.

Isn't the pull ratio different between road and mtb once you go 10 speed or is that 11?

+1 if you want more scope to go bigger at the back then an 10spd XT shifter and medium cage SLX mech would be an option. That would open up 11-32 and 11-34 cassettes and beyond.

yes but if the shifter and mech match then it's fine.

So, costs between road and mtb are identical...

I guess the mtb stuff could be re purposed as well.

Choices...
