Got two 16gm co2 cartridges confiscated from checked luggage on my last trip.

Just checking through a list of allowed / banned substances on planes, it says that they are allowed ...... and when you think about it there is actually one under every seat of the plane in the life vest and I have seen oxygen bottles in overhead lockers too!!!

Why are they being confiscated then, doesn't make sense??

Pressurised cylinders are a class 1 dangerous good (IIRC) and can be carried on a passenger aircraft, however the declaration paperwork is a nightmare (We transport test gas by helicopter at work, it's a right pain)

I'd stick them in your wash bag.

I always take them with me in my bike box and so far, no one has complained. I have, however, had GT-85 confiscated.

EDIT: The whole airport security thing is just so completely random, with each airport having it's own rules. Inconsistent in the UK, eg some airports demand iPads out, some let you leave them in bags with iPods.

Perhaps they felt some random senseless security action was needed to make you feel more secure ๐Ÿ˜‰

some airlines allow a quantity of 2 in hold with good reason - Ie a bike ....

As oliver says they are a class 1 dangerous goods and the paperwork is a chuff

i looked into shipping them to ukraine in february and decided id just buy em there ! - we use 50-100 or so 8gram cartridges per instalation.

I know someone who had two in their bike bag, they showed up on the x-ray but he told them they were empty. They didn't even check them and let the bag through!

Guys carrying pressurised cylinders for avalanche airbag systems often print out the document saying they're OK to be carried and wrap it around the canister in case anyone gets too picky.

The avalanche systems are essentially identical to a life-jacket, so there are already 200+ of them on the aircraft!

Luton a couple of years back objected to four in my bike bag and said the limit was two. I said fair enough, can I have that other bike bag back (there were two of us) and I'd move two across. They didn't bother. Even if they all went pop at once, they're not getting out of the bike bag.

As said above, there's one under every seat anyway.
