Hi all,

I've just invested in some shiny xt clipless pedals and shoes for my five, hoping to do more xc type riding here in Konstanz

Just wondering if anyone else is using clipless on their fives - any good / bad experiences??

Any info welcome!

mmmmm... yep. I'm sure lots of people ride clipped in on their Fives.

Why wouldn't you? Is that not the trendy thing to do these days?

I'm not sure why you wouldn't? Give it a go and persist for a while - you'll know then if it works for you. I ride both - not on a 5 though.

Ah, lindau is really nice, good riding in the mountains there too. I'm enjoying Konstanz - apart from all the tourists!

Pretty sure I'm not going to die riding clips on the five and I'm not too bothered about being fashionable!
I've not long had the five and I was sure whether xt clips were more for cx bikes, touring or carbon lightweight hard tails etc!

Thanks for the info guys, will give it a blast!

Alpin - how come you left the area mate, did you find somewhere better?!?

Pretty much every enduro and downhill racer rides clipped in!

You can't ride clipless on a five due to the linkage curve and swing ratio of the single pivot. Every other bike is fine just not the Five. I would buy a new bike 😀

I've been riding clipless on fives since 2004 seems to have worked out ok for me....bizarre question? DH races use them, enduro racers use them xc racers use them. In fact trials and dirt jumpers seem to be about the only ones that dont, you'll be fine but you may not automatically get awesome skills and dented shins.

Moved to Munich for work.

Lindau is indeed a lovely place. In fact the whole lake is rather nice, hence all the tourists. Although that does come with the added benefit of all the young, nubile, i-don't-need-clothes Fräuleins sunbathing along the lake.

Think there is some riding over the Swiss border and Freiburg is not too far away.

Re the Five - I bought it from the LBS when I was in the uk and moved it across (with the rest of the fleet) when I moved. Your right though, quite a few of the locals stop and ask what it is etc ... it makes a change from the sea of focus, cube, storck, bulls bikes you normally see...

My mate lives just outside Zurich so he's teaching me some local loops which are nice too, not been to Freiburg yet however it's on the cards.

Thanks for all the replies guys!!
