Looking at a 2010 Berlingo to use for shunting bikes around, can you fit an adults full size enduro bike inside without taking the front wheel off? it is the model with 3 front seats and plan to take me and my 2 boys and bikes kit etc in the back
Van?
Then yes definitely, I've got the mutlispace and can fit several bikes in diagonally if the back seats are folded. Have kids seats at either side at the back so usually just fold the middle and put my bike in with the front wheel off.
yes the van one.
Thought there looked to be a fair bit of space in the back and the 3 front seats would suit my need very well although I think the middle one looks small but be ok for one of the kids.
I'm currently sat in Clacket Lane services on my way home from Morzine. In the back of my Multispace I have four bikes and all the clobber needed for my holiday. Two back seats have been removed though.
Toomba, I've got an L2 Berlingo which has a bit more length in the body than the standard van. Three seats across the front and enough space for 3 DH bikes with both wheels on and riding gear. The smaller van ? I don't think the bikes would go in with the front wheel on.
I have a 2013 berlingo that has a bulkhead in it haven't tried to get more than one bike in but mine only just fits in diagonal
My berlingo currently has 4 bikes in it (back seats folded down). Love it even though it's ugly!
I ran an older me Berlingo van as my 'car' for a couple of years. Was great for biking day trips. Good mpgeeeees
Davesport I take it he L1 is the small van and the L2 a longer wheel base van with more space? I hadn't realised there was a bigger one.
@Brickwizard I don't think the wheelbase is any different, simply an extra bit of bodywork added on. It's not the prettiest thing on the planet ! Double door at the back and a sliding door at either side. It's big enough in the back to sleep in ๐
I had the car version, and it would take bikes with wheels on, assuming you removed the double rear seat (which was 6 torx bolts). I took 2 friends with 3 4x bikes and 2 downhill bikes in it.
Don't get a petrol, the mpg is awful. The diesels do good mpg of course.
The Yak thinks you must have helluva stumpy legs to sleep in a berlingo. However The Yak would like to own a Berlingo or similar van.
I remember getting 4 bikes(in bags), 4 people and all their luggage into a berlingo years back. The owner smiled, and slammed the boot door. A stem poking out top of one bike bag shattered the back window. I guess it all almost fitted.
But yes, to answer the question, they're great machines for bikes
I have the van with three front seats. You can fit a full sized enduro bike in but the front wheel needs to be at an angle. One on each side will fit easy, a third in the middle will probably need the front wheel removing as there's no space to put the wheel at an angle because of the angle of the other two front wheels.
Road bikes and short travel XC bikes will go in straight, but enduroer is longererer.
Middle seat is a bit of a crippler, I find I get a bit twisted after a while in it.
I sleep in mine, the front passenger seats fold flat so my legs can go as far as the dashboard.
My Berlingo van can fit about four bikes without taking them apart.
We've got the latest one in work, it's not quite long enough to take my medium Tracer T275 length ways, you have to turn the bars and sort of poke them over the drivers shoulder, but you can get 3 in that way - the boss's shorter 26er HT will go in lengthways though.
There's really not much to not like about ours, cruise control, sat-nav, not horribly slow, very frugal - we'd have liked the slightly more powerful one with the 6sp box in hindsight and air-con because it's an oven on hot days.
Mate has one and fits our bikes in fine length wise, the only slight issue is getting my XL bike in do to the height of the bars. The roof does have a few crease marks so you do have to take care getting it in and out.
