Has anyone had a problem with the EBB creaking on a Chumba HX1? Or on other frames? (I don't know if they're generic so it might be an entirely frame specific question)
Any tips on how to get rid of the creaking? I'm fairly sure it's not coming from anywhere else and my LBS couldn't find any other problems. But neither could they figure out how to remove the EBB shell, if that's possible, so are unable to see if that's what's causing the noise. I'm hoping it'll just need a bit of grease in the right place!
So any ideas?
(I have contacted Si at Progressive but thought it'd be worth an ask here to)
anyone in the late crowd?
Is it a Bushnell type or a set screw type EBB?
Bushnell.
Set screw.
Edit just found a picture and it's a Bushnell.
Right then.
There's a bolt on the none driveside of the EBB (4 or 5 mm can't remember)
Undo that. It'll go slack but just keep turning it and it'll go tight again. Keep going as this is freeing the wedges off.
Once the wedges are free the unit will turn and you'll be able to pull it out. (if you're using an external bb you'll have to remove it before you start or the cups will stop you pulling the unit out)
When you've got the EBB out strip it down and re grease everything then re assemble.
If that doesn't work drop me an email and I'll give you a few tips on what to do.
I don't really know! would guess it's a set screw - there's a hole with a 5mm allen bolt on the underside of the frame, I assumed this was to hold the EBB in place but have never tried adjusting it.
ah, doesn't look quite like either, certainly doesn't have the big screws underneath. unfortunately its in the shop at the mo so I can't get a look at it
there's a picture of the underside of one in this thread:

I think there's a bolt in the hole you can see next to the cable guide
The hole in that pic's for a cable guide or something.
Oh, now I remember, the bolt is as you say on the side not underneath. I have tightened it before but never tried to open it up.
I'll give it a go.
thanks for the help, much appreciated.
Any problems give me a shout.
Oh and if your LBS couldn't figure out how to remove an EBB I'd not take your bike there again...
