Morning.
I know, this isn't a BMX forum but I know there are a lot of locals on here who would be interested in this, plus if you think of it as a big pump track us MTBers should have some fun.
In a nutshell we have been working for sometime to get the derelict BMX track in Cheltenham redeveloped. We have a fantastic amount of support from the establishment (Local MP, Police, Local NHS, Council, British Cycling) but we now need riders to attend who are interested in seeing another cycling facility in the area.
The plan is to build a regional (8man) BMX track which will be all weather and in the heart of Cheltenham. We have established a BMX club and this will aim to compete in the regional series and even nationals.
The meeting is to invite the public to discuss the plans and would like to invite all those riders who will support this to come along. We expect there to be one or two people who don't want this to happen so with a mass of support we can hopefully show the positive side of this too.
The meeting itself will be held on Monday 27th Feb in St Barnabas Church Hall in Orchard Way, GL51 7AJ. This is off Princess Elizabeth Road, at 7pm. We are setting up at 6.15pm so we will be there before 7pm.
There will be press, and Council Officials as well as Council Members and we also have the DartmoorUK/Slam69 riders coming including the current National 4x Champion.
Looking forward to seeing as many as possible there.
Where's the existing track?
Easy IHN! How's tricks?
The track is just off Arle Road, next to the football pitch
S'up. Okay ta.
Wow, that track has seen better days. You'd have difficulty getting around that on a child's bike ๐
Evening bump...
Sunday bump
Jeez, what a bunch of NIBY's
That is an understatement!
I loved theway the contradicted themselves all over theplace, like "fence it off so they cant use it" but that later changed to " dont fence it we wont be able to walk our dogs"
So what happened? Couldn't make it after getting back late from work. Was the feeling from the locals negative? I suspect that if you try and do anything anywhere you get a mostly negative reaction and the council will take that into account but I could be being overly positive there. I'd love a decent BMX track to take the nipper to when he gets to be old enough so fingers crossed for it. Thanks to all for their efforts so far.

Basically, every drug taking, booze swiging low life criminal from 1000 miles around , will descend on any new bmx track and turn the whole area into the next 'Sodom and Gomorrah'.
Lot of the locals obviously read the daily mail as there were the typical stereotypical comments (anti social behaviour, drugs, drink, vandalism, graffti, noise, motorcycles, loss of value on their houses, etc)
generally not as bad as we expected, just surprising that they would prefer the shit hole to remain a shit hole. At the end of theday we want to improve the area but they cant see past theirown fears.
On the whole it was good! ๐
They have recently built a small BMX/Skateboard park in Abbeymead in Gloucester and it is always packed with youngsters and now gives them somewhere to go to socialise and play. It drives me mad that people say "give the kids something to do to stop them hanging around shops and street corners" and when people try to give them other stuff to do they kick off. There is also a new park in Churchdown that has done exactly the same thing and has improved the area. The proposed part of Cheltenham this is being considered for needs something like this.

It is between Hesters way and the Moors and they think it can get worse?

Quite a positive piece really.
Makes me laugh that they are worried about people using motorbikes and making noise when they make the point that it is already happening so how will improving how the land looks make it any worse and devalue their houses???!!
Also, if they were so worried about it and had been since the 80s, why has the land been left to waste away rather than the community taking a bit of pride and doing something about this eyesore themselves!! Then they complain about people who want to do something positive!
Will I be as mean spirited as that Gilbert Collins when I make it to 43? Better make the most of the next year then.

Only if ou start reading the daily wail between now and then.
