[Closed] Cheapish roof carriers?

I have finally decided to go for a roof carrier after years of battling with boot mounted racks and full sussers....

So, has anyone got any ideas for cheapish roof carriers. I really like the look of the posh Thule and Mont Blanc jobbies but at £50+ a piece coupled to the fact that I'm looking for 4 means £200 quid straight away before I even buy the roof bars so that's that idea oot the winda.

Any suggestions? The bikes will have widish AM type tyres. I could live with round about £30 each for the carriers but any cheaper would be a bonus!

Cheers

I've tried Thule and a variety of cheaper ones.

Spend the extra woudl be my advice - they're just so much more stable and easier to attach and use.

For 4 bikes I might be looking at getting a towbar fitted and a 2nd hand pendle/Thule towbar mounted rack - slightly more expensive but easier to use for 4 bikes, imo and less impact on fuel consumption.

Have a look at www.roofbox.co.uk and check out the Atera Giro AF.
Brilliant bit of kit!
They do come up now and again on eBay.
I have 1 I will be selling (I own 3 but only use 2 of them) which probably isn't much good seeing as you want 4 of them.
Highly recommend them, I think Atera stuff is better than Thule.
The tow bar mounted carrier I had before the roof mounted ones was seriously impressive.

Halfords are doing good some deals just now, Halfords branded but look exactly like the older Thule model.

We have the Halfords versions, they are identical -really, really identical - to my mates Thule versions. They hold my Wolf Ridge, my Mount Vision and the G/Fs Spesh Myka FSR without problems.

Use Halfords ones. No issues.

Any roof carrier will wallop the mpg. Knocks 25% off on my diesel estate at road legal speeds.

Thanks for the ideas ppl. 25% reduction in mpg's does worry me a little tho! Especially as my 2.0 petrol passat currently only gets 35 at best.... I may need a different solution like a van...
