I did the mistake of getting a Bergamot Grandurance commuter, which is not much fun to ride even with mudguards and rack removed (turns out I detest panniers - very awkward to jump with them and can take the tram if it's raining).
Now I'm looking for a lighter, stiffer and faster pure roadbike that's not worth so much it can't be locked on the street, say sub 1000 gbp. I can live with rimbrakes, quite flat where I live.
I was thinking something like an old CAAD10 105 which can be found for 600-800 gbp around here and perhaps find a used 50 mm aero wheelset?
Any other bikes/framesets I should look out for?
I've got no idea about the state of the second hand road bike market but I'd guess a CAAD 10 would be a good shout.
Depending on size this looks good from a forum member.

I loved my CAAD10
Look at less trendy brands than cannondale, things like cube, merida etc.
less attractive to a thief.
cheap fast and fun commuting bike then id look at a 2nd hand Planet X space chicken/Free ranger
The Sram rival spec ones were as low as £1300 new so will below your 1k budget
Great on the road, nice and light and can be taken off road if you want
Here is some a little over budget as they have had upgrades

I don't care to make it look less attractive to a thief, I just want to keep my insurance premiums low and get something I could replace without too much faff - CAADs are plentiful in the second hand market.
Thanks for the Planet X rec, I've looked at some of their models, not as many in Poland where I live but there are a few.
So forgot to mention, I'm in Krakow and need a size min 58 - 61 cm..
Id be getting a titanium Planet X. Over budget but still. SHINEY
I had a caad9 which I really liked and now have a Caad12 disc. Regardless of hills I’ll take disc over rim brakes anyway - if you’re going to ride in the rain. If ridingnonly when dry then rim brakes will do. The caad10 is meant to be a fast / light frame - sounds ok for £700-800 if the spec is ok and it’s in good shape.
Not sure if you got Boardman bikes over there - if ok with rim brakes then the Boardman Team carbon is a decent bike. Nice stiff pedalling frame but that doesn’t beat you up over bad roads too much. I sold mine for £350-£400 in 2018. Loads of them were sold in the uk on the cycle to work scheme and not used much. Think mine weighed about 18lbs just with a change to Mavic Aksium wheels when the standard Ritchey ones died.
