Thinking of turning my tandem 69er, as the front is a bit low at the moment and it only runs V brakes. What are the options for strong but cheapish rigid forks for 29er?
Ta
mate, i dont think i would trust the steerer on 29r forks for a tandem.
but if i had to choose, the ones of surly karate mnkey are pretty robust.
Salsa do a rigid steel 29er fork that doesn't cost a fortune.

It's just on road, with the wee fella, but fair point.
you and your lad wont weigh as much as me, so you will probably be ok.......... ๐
Not yet, but he's sprouting.
I don't see how a steel 29er steerer tube is any different to a steel 26er steerer tube. ๐
Longer blades, more leverage.
ssstu, and you being a tandem owner too............. ๐ ๐
Shouldn't make any difference to the steerer though.
Blades maybe, but not the steerer.
You should have enough room for a 29er wheel in the Salsa 26er fork if if worries you though.
Ton.
Our tandem came with a 100mm fork and it's now got a 150mm fork on it.
Some folks over think these things. ๐
You could try MTB tandems in the states. I think they do a fully rigid 29r tandem with discs that they have made for them so might be able to get you a fork

Edit - so long as the fork has a steel steerer I wouldn't be too worried anyway
I'm not worried and should've put a ? after leverage as I'm certainly mo 'forum engineer'
26" forks are too low and no disc mount.
Dare I say 20 mm axle with a disc on a tandem?

The Salsa 26er fork does though. 8)
Would the On-One rigids be any good? The 440mm ones should take a 29er front wheel, not sure about the 420s. Both have a disc mount, 420s have V-pegs too.
I've been thinking of doing the same - haven't got round to it yet. I'd be interested to know whether they'd be strong enough though.
Bit more than 'interested' actually
