I dont know anything about road tyres, so what do you suggest?

specialized fatboys. they are cheap, tough and fast. put them at 100psi and bob's your bosh.

Depends on your definition of cheap. Best road tyre I've used was fairly cheap - conti sport contacts (1.3). Hold a nice 90-100psi, sod all rolling resistance, light and so far puncture proof.
Was £13 when I bought it, now ~19.

£19 too much but £8 from halfords sounds good but cant see them on their website.
