In my experience, most mountain bikers, especially downhillers, are some kind of engineer. I use this term loosley, including mechanics, chippies and the like.
Are you an engineer?
Or something else, if so what?
Engineer: yes
Downhiller: no
I think according to your loose definition of engineer I may well be one. But I would usually regard myself as a lawyer. ๐
I'm a law-talking guy, as Lionel Hutz would say, too. There seem to be a few of us on this forum.
Philosophically engineer is nomenclature that might adequately describe me, however, I am actually an artist.
Possibly I am.
But really I'm a salesman.
And Smee is a driving instructor.
In my experience, most work in IT.
engineering degree but cycle mechanic to trade !
Solicitor & armchair engineer (and previously real life bike wrench).
I sell shite to people who don't need it.
IME most contributors on cycling forums would like others to think they have some engineering expertise, but have in fact, nothing of the sort... ๐
I am part of a production team that build/engineer a product, so you might be able to say I am an engineer. But I'm not, I'm an artist.
software engineer
but DH'er nope.
Aye, 90% IT in here.
Engineers, as a breed, do seem attracted to the bicycle ...
Engineer: Yes (well sort of) ๐
Mountain biker: Yes
Downhiller : No
Automotive Engineer but not a DH'er
Although it is fair to say that if you ask the forum in the afternoon you will not get answers from all of the prostitutes, assassins, stunt pilots, big game hunters, astronauts or engine drivers on here, as they are not bored at their desks at this time of day.
molecular biologist myself
most are in IT, well that post on here
and im mostly into dh these days sort of
Engineer - no
Graphic Designer - yes
(this is why I'm always asking questions about how to set stuff up)
I guess i'm mechanically minded, and seem to have inherited my dad's love of mechanical things, who does happen to be an engineer. My great uncle was apparently good at mechanical engineering in how he made things for his farm, but not actually qualified as one. Officially though i'm just somebody who like's tinkering with things.
Tim
Automotive Engineer but not a DH'er
= Mechanic.
๐
Given how retarded many of the posts are on here are, I certatainly hope most aren't engineers.
Eg:
- Bearing numbers
- re-greasing bearings
- bolt torques
- changing brake pads
- anything asked by Racing Ralph
etc
etc
etc
Probably most MTBer and touring cyclists are tinkerers i think, which is a noble thing to be. ๐
Automotive engineer but not a DH'er
if you can answer this question in under 3 minutes you can be an engineer:
Which is the 6th number?
1, 2, 6, 42, 1806, ___???
= Mechanic
I thought someone might say that but Im not actually! not quite sure what I do do but it has something to do with designing/building cars ๐
Those grinning smileys are awfull.
ha ha ha
no
most work in IT as mrsflash observes
i'm an elf an safetee consultant, livin the dream oh yeah ๐
Shock absorber engineer for 20+ years... ๐
Due to lack of work in the motorsport industry, currently white van man... ๐ฅ
Marketing guy, and downhiller, (but my degree is in industrial design) ๐
3263442 - about 40 secs
In IT but with an Engineering degree ๐
Definitely not a DHer though.
Did no one read the carbon fibre thread. You must think your an engineer to post on here and you must think that everyone else is a crap engineer who posts on here. I don't think however that it is necessary to actually be an engineer. ๐
I am not an engineer deluded or real,
and not much of a mountain biker considering I've been doing it for over 20 years.
I keep my job a secret
3263442 and I work in tv and do xc
Damn should reload the thread before answering
Electronic and former aerospace (hit it with a rock) engineer. Do It now. Do I tick enough boxes? DH is for poofs.
Votchy - 3263442. Way less than 3 mins - where do I get the elbow patches for my cardigan? (am not, never have been and don't want to be an engineer or a downhiller)
Instrument Technician, so in engineering, but no DH bike yet.
well done, elbow patches will be forwarded to you soon, maybe...
I'm not an engineer, but I've got a big hammer
Engineer - BEng Hons - tick. But not at the moment, left RR in 2003.
Downhiller - nil qualifications. Though hanging onto a gravity induced tandem might qualify.
Driving Instructor - tick that aswell.
Rob
Engineer - yup, my job allows me to design electronics, mechanical and embedded software eng where needed.
Downhiller - nope, but I do prefer downhilling to XC simply as I'm better at it!
Truck driver yesterday.
Domestic engineer today, i've cleaned the house and made some dinner i'll make tea soon.
Tomorrow i'll be a mountian biker if i'm not a truck driver again.
I am an engineer and ride downhill but i also ride uphill.
engineer hmmmm....i liked the armchair engineer "quote" i do sit down a lot
downhill...everything goes down hill eventually...if i was a dog they would have put me down by now
Joxster - if you have a large hammer you may indeed be an engineer. If you also have a LARGER hammer then you are most certainly an engineer!
Rob
it's not a hammer, its a technical adjuster!
