I'm sure this is an easy thing to do but I've only just started doing my own bike jobs. I have before taken a cassette off my geared bike. But can't work out how to remover this. It needs changing asap!

is it a free wheel or conversion kit?

if a freehweel, you need the tool basicly just a head to fit in a socket or a shifty spanner with the appropriate dogs on it

(like a cassete remover, but different i think) if its a conversion, the cassete lockring remover will do the job

it will either be a conversion like this [img] [/img]

or a bmx free wheel like this

if it is the first on treat it as a cassette it is mechanically the same (same tools etc.

if it is the free wheel you need one of these

which is a freewheel remover. available from charlie the bike monger.

I hope that helkps

From what i remember its a standard Shimano cassette tool and a DMR type cog so same as when you removed your cassette.

The Cog is 18t standard

On a rig if its like mine, then its a lockring on a cassette body arrangement, I generally just use a chain whip as per a usual cassette and a rather nastily use the BFO hammer and screwdriver method, usually they are never that tight, causes no damage and real easy to remove.

Can you just reverse the cog so you run on the unworn side? Probably need to replace chainring and chaim as well though if its that worn.

I think it is too far gone to turn round. Recently had a new chainring! Slowly I will learn how to look after my bikes!
