Hi all,

Newbie-ish wrench needs help.

My son’s 2016 Trek Fuel needs new drivetrain groupset so want to take the chance to move from Shimano 2x10 to Shimano 1x11.

Question ... when I change the crank and chain ring do I need to change the bottom bracket as well?

Thanks.

You don't need to change the BB or the crank, just fit the changing to the existing 2x crank, where the bigger ring is normally fitted.

No. If it's non-boost, do you even need to change the crank?

Thank you.

I want to change the cranks as they are chipped and badly messed up but a fair point.

I assume it’s non-boost as a 2016 bike - happy for an expert to tell me I’m wrong though!

Possibly not boost in 2016, but non boost cranks can work fine with boost hubs anyway, my bike came like that.
