I've got a 68 x 126mm Octalink BB on my SS (Rockhopper) and I reckon it's past its best. I've got a 68 x 121mm Octalink BB going spare, is it going to cause me problems to swap them over?

There's loads of space at present between the chainstays and cranks, and all I'd be doing is moving them 2.5mm inwards. I would also swap my cog spacers about and adjust the tensioner's jockey wheel position, but is there anything else I've not considered.

Seems ok to me - got plenty clearance where the tyre goes past the chain?

yeah, loads. It just seems like such a simple solution that there had to be a pitfall somewhere.

I'll fit it tonight and hope the noises disappear.

If you can adjust the rear spacers accordingly then it makes no real difference. In fact you're better off with everything as close-in as you can get it (heel clearance permitting) as you'll get less stress on the components and a better pedalling position. (Marginally, obviously.)
