Ok following on from my thread about adjusting gears to eliminate noise (a few posts down). I inspected the drivetrain first and have found the source of the noise. The chain as it passes through the rear mech is rubbing on a small plate that is between the 2 jockey wheels, so much so it is wearing 2 grooves in the small plate from the chain rollers. Now it looks a bit weird , should the chain go over or under this plate in the rear mech?
The chain should not touch any of the cage braces, so you need to re-route it pronto.

Seems someone has routed the chain through wrongly under the plate instead of over. Been riding it like that from new FFS. I should achieve at least 2mph more now ๐
edit: wrong topic
Shimano mech? It's not hard to do, I've done the same and replied to a few topics on here about it in the past. The shape of the cage does make it look like it goes round the other side.
All sorted now. Yes SLX 3x10
Did that once! Took the chain off to clean it and re-fitted wrong. Rode 60k race the next day like that ๐ณ
It actually works quite well like that, but makes a noise like the chain is rubbing against the FD cage. In my defence, its quite easy to do on the 9 speed mechs, though thought the ten speed ones had been re-designed to prevent it...
Have you put a new chain on recently? If so, it sounds like its been routed incorrectly on the cage.
Forget I posted, others have beaten me to it.
