[Closed] Chain jumping into the granny over bumps, driving me potty !

Just wondered what's wrong with my setup, over rough downhill terrain, my chain very often jumps from the middle ring into the granny , It's driving me potty, and it can be quite dangerous, as when I reach a pedally bit there is no resistance. Is it a setup issue ? Chain too long ? Front mech not setup right ? Or should I get in the habit of descending in the big ring ?
Chain length is as setup from bike shop and the shifting is perfect.

chain might be too long, front mech may need tweeking out a bit, descending in the big ring wouldn't do you any harm either.

Is descending in the big ring the norm for most riders ?

Yes. Always. Mostly because you can go faster downhill if you pedal, and secondly, it stops the chain jumping. And also, if you are a midget like me with a low bottom bracket, you lose less teeth off your chain ring on the rocky drops.

You live and learn, I presumed middle ring descending was the norm.
I always previously descended in the middle ring, because it gave you more versatility of usable gears, that you may need to call upon on a section. I.e giving you the option of a big gear with the 11 sprocket, all the way through to a low ratio should you hit a ramp up mid descent, without having to shift chain rings.

Midgets have smaller bikes, which tend to have lower bottom brackets. They also have shorter cranks. And narrower bars.

downthemiddle - sounds like you are thinking too much. Just pedal as hard as you can, all the time, it's simpler that way...

I realised that the only reason I used my big rIng was to stop the chain bouncing off on bumpy descents

I also never climb in the granny

I've switched to 1x9
